To expand existing virtual machine disks and add new disks, follow these recommendations:
Precautions:
- The list of disk partitions includes MBR and GPT. The MBR partition list supports a maximum of 2 TB hard disk, and the GPT partition list supports a maximum of 128 PB (1 PB = 1024 TB). Please refer to the best practice settings for virtual machine disk size.
- CuriosityCloud can expand the disk capacity after startup.
- Virtual machines support adding new hard drives online.
- The IDE disk type does not support hot expansion of the disk. Vmtools must be installed.
- The Rapid Deploy virtual machine does not support system disk expansion.
- Due to the operating system itself, Windows Server 2016 DC The system disk (C:) does not support capacity expansion.
Prerequisites
You need to install VMTools and enable virtio disk for power-on expansion.
Procedure
Select the virtual machine whose disk needs to be expanded, and click More > Edit
Go to the Settings tab and find the Storage section increase the disk capacity to the required size. In this example, adjust the disk size from 50 GB to 100 GB, and then click OK.
Enter the virtual machine console: Place your mouse over the virtual console
machine and click More > console.
Log in to the ooperatio system and we will open Windows Disk Management, to do this we will look for the Magnifying Glass icon to run and after opening it we will write diskmgmt.msc in and click OK.
We refresh the disk information: Click the Refresh button on the disk management toolbar. After the newly expanded space is identified, the new space can be used to create a new simple volume or extend an existing volume. The following demonstration is for expanding a volume. As shown in the figure below:
Right click on the disk and then click Extend Volume. The expand volume wizard appears. The expansion process is simple. Carry out operations according to the system prompts.
Finish addition: As shown in the figure below, the disk expansion operation is complete.
