A CuriosityCloud Machine Image (Image) is an image offered by CuriosityCloud that provides the information necessary to launch an instance. You must specify an Image when starting an instance. When you need multiple instances with the same configuration, you can start them from a single Image. When you need instances with different configurations, you can use different Images to start them.v

An Image includes the following:
  • One or more CuriosityCloud Block Store Volumes, one template for the root volume of the instance (for example, an operating system, an application server, and applications) and another for the secondary volume for applications.
  • A block device mapping that specifies the volumes to attach to the instance when it is initialized.

Create your own Image

You can launch an instance from an existing Image, customize the instance (such as installing software on the instance), and then save the updated configuration as a custom Image. Instances launched from the new custom Image will include all the settings you defined when creating it.

Delete an Image

You can delete an Image when you are done with it. After you delete it, it cannot be used to start new instances. Instances launched from the Image will not be affected.

The root storage device of the instance determines the process followed to create an Image. The root volume of an instance is a CuriosityCloud Block Store volume or an instance stores volume.
